Our Faith Perspective

Our faith perspective is based on a Christian anthropological view of the person.

“Anthropology” is essentially the study of human beings, and more specifically, how we think about the origin, nature and destiny of man.  As therapists, we inevitably bring our world view to the therapy office.  While we don’t impose this worldview on our clients, it is the philosophy that informs our understanding of the human person.

Below is a summary of our Faith Perspective.

Adapted from “Psychology and Christian Anthropology,” by Dr. Christian Brugger, Edification, June 2009.

  • Our nature is fundamentally good; we are created by God, male & female, in His image.
  • Due to original sin we are fallen and personally weakened.
  • We are invited to redemption by faith in Jesus Christ, to be a member of the Body of Christ through baptism and to be a part of the Church, God’s family.
  • The human person is comprised of body, mind, and soul and all are substantially one (integrated).
  • As an image of a trinitarian God (Father, Son and Holy Spirit) in a relationship of love, we too have a strong need and desire for giving and receiving love in family, friendship, and other relationships.
  • The human person has the ability to make free choices and pursue good. A person’s freedom may be impeded due to psychological disorder, biological disease, or due to a lack of development (e.g. child.)
  • Each person possesses innate dignity, has a purpose and is destined to know God and live in love and truth with Him.
  • Grace builds on nature, therefore psychotherapy should strengthen the person’s natural capacities so God’s grace can perfect them more readily.
