A Guide for parents whose Child is More Intense, Sensitive, Perceptive, Persistent, & Energetic, Mary Sheedy Kurcinka
I have recommended this book for years for two reasons. First, Kurcinka’s parenting approach can be tailored to an individual child’s temperament. I am always for individualization. While most parenting books are based on a one-size-fits-all approach, Raising Your Spirited Child offers an individualized one. The various temperaments are described along with the parenting approach that corresponds best with specific temperaments. What parent doesn’t know that each of their children is unique?
The second reason I frequently recommend this book is Kurcinka’s positive attitude. She encourages the reader to consider the “problem” behavior as just an extreme of a positive characteristic. For example, stubbornness could be viewed as unbridled persistence, a characteristic that is important for making it through challenging situations. Seeing the problem behavior as just an extreme version of a positive characteristic fosters hope and optimism where once was only frustration and hopelessness.
Read Raising Your Spirited Child for a fresh outlook. Join in the discussion and share your thoughts about Mary Sheedy Kurcinka’s book.
